Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen prays for better second half of season – MLB News
Disappointment for the Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen has reached such a level that he is praying for help. Desperate to witness his closers throwing scoreless innings, he is hoping for better results in the second half. The sight of being defeated
on a number of occasions during such stages of the games when they were set to win has taken a heavy toll on his mind.
Therefore, Guillen is h**l-bent to turn things around. He is disheartened by the fact that his performance as a manager is declining as he has been unable to record a greater number of wins this year.
In this regard, the second half of the season will be an opportunity for him to improve and take his tally of wins to a respectable level.
Since Guillen is extremely frustrated, he is walking up to players and trying to convey to them what he wants. Due to this, some players like Heath Bell are wary of the way he comes to them and talks.
However, to this Guillen said, "Can you tell that [expletive] guy, and the [expletive] is just the way I talk, not just because I'm mad, make my [expletive] job easier and my life easy. I want him to be the closer. Just to [expletive] relax. ... You know
what's easy? When Mr. Joe Torre was [expletive] managing [expletive] New York and he goes, '[Mariano] Riverais in the game.' Oh my God, there we go. 'Give me the [expletive] cigar. It's on.' I want [expletive] that happen to me at least once this year.”
Earlier Guillen had lashed out at closer Heath Bell for his inability to protect the lead during the penultimate innings.
Bell is one of those players that the Marlins acquired during the off-season as part of their spending spree. Therefore, he was being looked upon as a healthy addition in their bullpen.
However, his performance so far in the season has been downright opposite of expectations.
In this connection, the manager is pondering over changes and the introduction of new closers. As they head to their first series after the break, it will be interesting to note which new closer they are going to bring in now.
