Miami Marlins nail down 6-2 win against Milwaukee Brewers as Josh Johnson shines - MLB Update

Starter Josh Johnson completes seven solid innings as the Miami Marlins outclass the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 at Marlins Park, Miami on September 6, 2012 in the last match of the four game series.
Miami leaped to the lead in the first inning. From there onward their starter kept the opposition from cutting in to it.
On the other hand, Brewers' pitchers failed to stop Miami from posting substantial number of runs on the scoreboard.
Marlins did not rely on home-runs for scoring. Instead their batters counted on singles and doubles to send the base runners aboard. Their first baseman Greg Dobbs gave way to two RBIs on Thursday by striking one hit in three at-bats.
The second baseman Donovan Solano was the most successful hitter for Miami as he was 3-for-4.
Johnson allowed two runs while striking-out seven. More importantly he yielded only four hits throughout the game which shows the difficulty the batters had in connecting his pitches.
Marlins’ relievers carried out an excellent job at a time when the couple of hits allowed by them may have brought the Brewers back into the game.
Relief pitcher Heath Bell restricted Brewers to just two runs in the game as he completed the scoreless one inning. Similarly Brewers struggled to make anything substantial out of the pitches thrown by Steve Cishek.
Marlins’ Ozzie Guillen talks about the improvements that Johnson has made since the start of the season. While he battled hard in the beginning and failed in most of the occasions right now he is all set to deliver splendours on the mound.
"He started the season very rough because he hadn't pitched in a while," Ozzie Guillen said. "After that he got the momentum going. You look up and he's had a great year if you look at it that way, compared to last year."
Dobbs believes the reason why the Marlins managed to score a greater number of runs was the way they capitalised on the opportunities occurring in the game.
"We took advantage of the scoring opportunities we had," Dobbs said.
Ending the series on a high is great for Miami. Keeping the momentum going and improving their winning percentage is what they will be looking forward to at the moment.
