Miami Marlins new ballpark to be real fun for fans during the 2012 season - MLB Update
In a list of less than 50 stadiums in the world that have a retractable roof and air-conditioning, Marlins’ ballpark is a new addition. Burden that its construction is going to lighten on Marlins' management aside, the kind of fascination it has on offer
for fans this season is going to be more important.
As the roof design is such that just when rain is likely it will come over and play will go on uninterrupted, fans will never see a game put off for hours.
Since humidity is so pervasive in Miami that it has in the past inhibited players from offering their best. Thus, an air conditioned atmosphere will be a real comfort for both players and fans.
Marlins’ catcher John Buck had to endure scorching heat last season at south Florida and since his performance was affected considerably by this, he feels relieved this year.
The ballpark is one of six Major League stadiums and the distinction it holds in this respect will bring fans to the stadium from all across Florida. A rather captivating influence is the roof, as it is the newest of all stadiums built on this model so far.
As it has been reported that, by the time the games stop for breaks, the roof will move the other way to cover a corridor under which music and other entertainment related activities will go on. Therefore, in addition to the play, fans will have new things
to experience.
As soon as first Exhibition game was played on this ground, just how important the retractable roof will be this season was realised. Under the threat of rain, as management realised while the match went by, the roof was closed and importantly it took just
15 minutes to close down completely.
"That's why we were building this so the fans would have air-conditioning and wouldn't have rain delays, and that played perfect for the first event that we had," said Pat Delano, senior project manager. "I think everybody from the Marlins' staff and architects
and us as the construction manager were very happy that we were able to implement that right away so the fans who were here could see that."
Under the fact that almost 200 games were disturbed by rain at the Sun Life Stadium, place where Marlins played their last 19 seasons, usefulness of their new ballpark is beyond doubt.
