Miami Marlins officially declare dismissal of Ozzie Guillen - MLB Update
Finally Miami Marlins have declared that Ozzie Guillen is no longer a part of the club. They have fired him against the backdrop of his unimpressive record as manager and the fact that he could not develop a winning culture in the team.
After spending a huge amount of money on acquiring star players, the Marlins’ top management wanted such a team that wins on regular basis and dominates the National League East Division.
Contrary to their expectations, they saw the Marlins failing miserably in 2012 Major League regular season.
The hiring of Guillen last year was the part of the process of changes that were intended to make sure the Marlins perform well in the season.
Guillen was handpicked by the owner Jeffrey Loria. He was considered by him an ideal person to transform their mediocre club into a force to reckon with.
Unfortunately he met a disappointment as the addition of Guillen in the team worsened their performance. The fact the Marlins finished at the bottom this year confirms this.
Guillen was part of the speculations immediately after the conclusion of the regular season that he will be fired. Most of the experts were almost sure that the Marlins will have a new manager in place for their expedition next year.
Mike Berardino, who works at Sun Sentinel, has stated that the Marlins’ President for Baseball Operations Larry Beinfest formally announced the ouster of Guillen from the club in the following words.
"After careful consideration following the disappointment of the 2012 season, we decided to dismiss Ozzie," said Larry Beinfest. "Our hope is that a new manager, along with roster improvements, will restore a winning culture.”
Apparently the biggest reason of the sacking of Guillen is that he could not render a change in the mindset of the players. As a leader, he was supposed to take into account the psychological aspect of managing players as opposed to focusing just on their
baseball talent.
He could not engage team members and formulate a kind of unit that could challenge oppositions.
Instead he remained close to controversies, for example praising Fidel Castro and speaking out at players during the matches.
The Marlins will be looking to find his successor. They will be hoping that they acquire someone who fits the criteria and has credentials to lead the team effectively.
