Miami Marlins outclass Boston Red Sox 4-1 as Josh Johnson throws seven innings-MLB Update
Rookie Donovan Solano manages a sacrifice fly and helps the Miami Marlins record first run as they beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 at Marlins Park in Miami on June 11, 2012, during the first game of the three match series.
Marlins surged to a convincing lead right at the start. By scoring three runs in first, the Red Sox were made to deal with the task of bridging the deficit straight away.
As Boston failed in this regard, they can trace their misery to quality throws coming off from pitchers.
Josh Johnson was the main architect of their undoing. Throwing an impeccable spell of seven innings for the Marlins, he struck-out seven and allowed one run.
Satisfied with the command, Johnson stated that he manipulated his throws rightly. At the start, he was off the road for a while. However, once few innings passed, his groove returned and he dominated for rest of the game, he elaborated.
"It took me two batters to get my rhythm, but I made some good pitches when I needed to," Johnson said.
Apart from one run in the sixth, Boston experienced a serious drought on the plate. Their offence let them down big-time and became the greatest reason of their failure.
Drawing just five hits from it was not reflective of the belligerency, which was needed after they trailed by four runs.
Bulk of the credit goes to the Marlins’ relievers, who offered nothing to Boston during penultimate innings. Whatever counter-attack Boston contrived was stymied as and when it came about. Heath Bell, who stepped on the mound as closer, was perfect in his
throws.
Bell drew three strike-outs and rightly protected the Marlins’ lead.
Finally, the Marlins find victory after being hammered flurry of defeats in the last week. Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen looks to build up a long-winning streak from now onward.
"Finally we start listening to music," Ozzie Guillen said. "It was dead there for the past couple of days. These guys' feelings are hurt when they're not winning. Hopefully this win against a good pitcher takes us on another hot streak."
Winning first game of the series always helps boost morale for upcoming games. By winning next two games, the Marlins can sweep the series and can give a new shape to their expedition in the season.
