Miami Marlins outclass Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 as Carlos Lee drives in two runs - MLB Update
The first baseman Carlos Lee and starter Ricky Nolasco take the Miami Marlins to a 7-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Marlins Park, Miami on August 11, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
The Marlins trailed by two runs before the beginning of the bottom of the fifth. Therefore, against the backdrop of complete silence that Miami’s offence observed in the last few games, it was not entirely without a reason to believe that they will lose.
However, defying the odds, their offence launched an effective resistance in the fifth inning and brought four runs. As a result, they posted two-run lead.
Lee came across four at-bats. He struck one hit while driving in for two runs in the game.
Meanwhile, if it was not for the strong innings from the relief pitchers, the Marlins’ lead will not have remained intact.
After the starter Nolasco finished five innings, the reliever Carlos Zambrano stepped on the mound.
Zambrano was scoreless in little more than one inning. Similarly the relief pitcher Heath Bell, who is generally prone to leaking runs, completed scoreless one inning.
The Marlins’ starter Nolasco earned the win as he did not let the opposition rise to a run-rampage in the beginning. He gave up two runs in the match and struck-out one.
Meanwhile, Nolasco is pleased with the fact that the offence came up to his support to help him win the game.
Furthermore, he has talked of the various realities that a starter can face. Sometimes a hurler throws impeccable spell of innings and yet he suffers the loss, whereas at-times he does not perform even a fraction of it but he wins the game.
"It's funny how the game goes," Nolasco said. "Sometimes you pitch well enough to win and you lose. Sometimes you have no business being in the game and you just find ways. I was just trying to find a way, limit the damage, and the offense came through to
put up some big runs."
In order to keep winning matches, the Marlins will require consistent performances from their offence. It will be interesting to see as to what extent they can be successful in this regard.
