Miami Marlins outclass San Francisco Giants 5-3 as Mark Buehrle exhibits control - MLB Update
Starter Mark Buehrle throws a commanding spell of little more than seven innings and helps the Miami Marlins win 5-3 against the San Francisco Giants at Marlins Park, Miami, FL, in third game of the four match series on May 26, 2012.
Short-stop Jose Reyes and third baseman Hanley Ramirez gradually improve their batting averages. While both struggled at the start of the season, since last week, they are steady in progress.
In the bottom of the third, as Reyes was waiting for an appropriate hit to go aboard, Ramirez singled and let him off to complete the score.
By the time the Marlins surged to three runs lead at the end of the third, the task became harder for the Giants, especially against Buehrle who was going superbly.
Striking quality hits and going past the Marlins’ lead demanded something spectacular, which never came from any of their hitters.
Only time the Giants had a chance to experience a run-rampage was in the eighth. It was a time when Buehrle was tired and was more likely to offer loose throws. The Marlins however were clever enough and brought in reliever, Steve Cishek right away.
Relief pitcher, Heath Bell was about to crumble again, before the Marlins replaced him with Randy Choate, who then threw the remaining part of his inning.
Bell gave up two walks and one run and made it difficult for Choate, who threw under bases-loaded scenario.
Luckily, Choate completed the ninth scoreless and escaped a bases-loaded situation successfully.
"Two of my hits to lefties this year was to (Blanco) so I was a little pumped that I finally got him out," Choate said. "I tried treating it like any other appearance. Obviously there is way more adrenaline going because the crowd is going nuts and the bases
are loaded, but I tried to take it as get the lefties out and get out of the game."
The way right fielder Giancarlo Stanton is hitting in almost every game, the Marlins can envisage a big show from him later in the season. He struck two hits in three at-bats on Saturday and took his slugging percentage to an impressive.568.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen will hope Bell puts up better performances in upcoming games and does not let his confidence decline after having poor time on the mound.
