Miami Marlins outclassed by Los Angeles Dodgers 2-5 as Mark Buehrle gives up four runs-MLB Update
Starter Mark Buehrle leaks four runs in the Miami Marlins' 2-5 defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Marlins Park, Miami on August 10, 2012 in the first match of the three game series.
The Marlins were leading by one run up until the end of the fifth inning. A couple of more scoreless innings from the starter will have made it extremely difficult for the Dodgers to end up winning the game.
Unfortunately while Buehrle was successful for the most part of his time on the mound in disallowing runs, in the sixth he could not help giving them up. The four runs that he cost in the sixth took the Dodgers past the Marlins by three runs.
Afterwards, the Marlins' offence struggled to muster a counter-attack. Thus, they were defeated in the end.
Offensively, the Marlins were mediocre as they struck just four hits in the game. The fact their shortstop Jose Reyes was missing in the line-up on Friday can be one of the reasons behind this.
Miami generally relies on individual performances. When the hitters like Giancarlo Stanton and Reyes have a bad day, the whole team suffers.
As Stanton remained hitless in four at-bats on Friday, why the series of massive hits were not seen from their offence can be understood. The centre fielder Justin Ruggiano was the only player who struck a home-run for Miami.
Meanwhile, an interesting scene developed in the match when the Dodgers’ shortstop Hanley Ramirez stepped on the plate. Ramirez played the entire season with the Marlins until he was sent to the Dodgers before the trade deadline.
Interestingly enough, he produced three hits and two RBIs against the team which was his own not too long ago.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen utters words of praise about Hanley, terming him a great talent to have for any team.
"This kid has so much talent he can hurt you anytime," Ozzie Guillen said. "He needed a change of scenery. I think it's good for him and his family. I think he'll play better for them."
Guillen will be displeased with the performance of his hitters. He will be looking to see them posting greater number of runs on the scoreboard in the upcoming games.
