Miami Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio out on DL – MLB News
News is coming that the Miami Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio with a sprained left thumb is placed on the 15-day disabled list.
“News is news,” said manager Ozzie Guillen. “Bad or good, it’s news.”
Few days earlier, speculations rose as he is heading to disabled list due to excessive amount of pain in his left thumb and now those speculations are claiming that accurate prediction.
A Major League leader in stolen bases, Bonifacio is experiencing first time in his career this type of situation where he is being put on DL.
Though the Marlins management has not given any potential date of his arrival, however, with some sources do claim that he will be coming potentially on June 3.
"They are being careful. They don't want it to be worse. They just want to make sure." said Bonifacio
The management has announced after watching his MRI reports which in detail revealed his thumb’s condition.
Bonifacio, a five year veteran in the Major League Baseball, is considered one of the fastest players in the league and known for his base stealing abilities. Currently he is with 21 steals is leader and playing with hitting .268 with a .351 on-base percentage.
The Marlins management after learning his condition has called outfielder Chris Coghlan from Triple-A New Orleans as potential replacement for Bonifacio.
"I feel myself again, I went down, and the first four or five games, I was trying to get my timing back. And getting in the swing of playing every day. I was grateful I got to play every day. In probably my last 10 days down there, I was back to my old self. Enjoying being in that mode and that mindset." Coghlan said.
Bonifacio, who has also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals, is a good player and his 15-day out of play certainly well affect the performance of his team.
His overall career hitting of .269 along with six homers, 95 RBIs and .331 OBP also makes him a good player and as soon as he returns to the field, the Marlins have to do some extra in defensive areas.
