Miami Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria advises players, ‘Don’t quit on yourselves’ - MLB Update
As losses are piling up and failure being seen in every area, the Miami Marlins are growing sick with their fate. Earlier the manager Ozzie Guillen talked of the slump and expressed sheer dissatisfaction over the players’ inability to follow instructions.
This time, not resisting interference in the matters, owner Jeffrey Loria steps in, coming up with a piece of advice to players and guiding them about how they can restore their best.
Few days ago, owner had asserted strong words for his side. He was steadfast in claiming that his players are some of the best in baseball and believed that slump is transient. He had expressed his optimism about watching the Marlins ending up achieving
an enviable position in the season.
However, drubbing being received by Miami against the Boston Red Sox forced him to step up and do something with the situation. Trying to give players confidence, Jeffrey walked up to them and exhorted to them that they are better off if they can keep faith
in their abilities and do not give up.
Citing his own example and how he achieved success in life, Loria tried to energise the players by explaining them the basic principles of reaching milestones in life.
It is the performance that is remembered ultimately, not the money that one can fetch from a contract, he explained them.
“I talked to them about I’ve had the success I want to have in my life and you still haven’t experienced it,” Loria said. “‘Yes, you’re making money. But when the money is all spent down the road, it’s going to be what you accomplished that matters. And
that’s what you’ll be talking about, not that I had a contract for X million dollars.’”
It will be interesting to see how players will take the advice and how far it will result into a better performance at the park. Despite the fact owner reiterated his faith in the current lot, changes will obviously be made if the status quo stays.
Therefore, sooner the players assume their responsibilities and put Marlins on the road to success the better it will be for them.
