Miami Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria beats Fidel Castro in popularity gauging poll - MLB Update
A poll conducted to determine popularity of Miami Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria in South Florida community has put him at the bottom of the table.
Only an insignificant proportion of the respondents that consisted of loyal Marlins’ fans likes Loria and believes that he is running affairs of the club in an appropriate manner.
The drastic decline in popularity of Loria has led some of the writers to comment that only Fidel Castro will be behind him in this regard.
Ever since a massive trade that sent most of the star players of the Marlins to Toronto Blue Jays, Loria is being criticised heavily. He is being viewed as the architect of the deal and responsible for rendering the roster of the team looking mediocre.
Fans believe that Loria carried out the trade in order to make profits as opposed to doing it for the long-term betterment of the club. They perceive him and his crew as the weak-link in the organisation.
Marlins’ President, David Samson is also in the bad books of the fans. Followers term him the puppet of Loria.
One of the respondents to the poll stated that hardly anyone is concerned about the future of the club. He has expressed his extreme disappointment with Loria.
“I don’t think he has the best interests of the community or the team as a priority,” said a fan. “I don’t think he understands the responsibility that comes with the public trust and the ownership of a professional sports team. It’s a different type of
business, not only one you can make a profit but with the public trust.”
Sarcastically calling team president David Samson a little Napoleon, an angry fan vented his frustration with the team management in the following words.
“I don’t trust him,” another participant said. “Basically I think he is here to make money. He and his little Napoleon (an apparent reference to team President David Samson) are just here to make a buck.”
The Marlins confront a monumental task of revamping their roster after the recent trade. They need to spend the money which has been saved for adding new players on the roster.
It will be interesting to see how the Marlins perform in the upcoming regular season.
