Miami Marlins pound Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 as Giancarlo Stanton and Rob Brantly shine-MLB
Right-fielder Giancarlo Stanton and catcher Rob Brantly spearhead the offence as the Miami Marlins defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California in the last game of the three match series on August 26, 2012.
The game saw it rain with home-runs struck by the Marlins. Four homers came off from their batters Stanton, Brantly, Jose Reyes and Carlos Lee.
It was for the same reason whatever attempt the Dodgers made to bounce back failed and did not end up in taking the victory away from the Marlins.
Showing tremendous performance against the recently refurbished line-up tells something about the quality of pitches thrown by Miami’s pitchers. Keeping the likes of Shane Victorino, Hanley Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez at bay was not easy.
Mark Buehrle assumed the mound as starter for the Marlins. In little more than five innings, he surrendered six hits and gave up one run. Although he was impressive, it was the relievers that did the bulk of the work late in the innings when the Dodgers
were going all-out to pull off the victory.
Buehrle comments on the jams he faced in the game and how he escaped them.
"It seems that every time we've scored a run or two, I go out there and give back at least one. So that was a big moment in the game," Buehrle said. "I got in a bunch of jams today that I usually don't pitch out of.”
Under pressure the relievers carried out an excellent job for Miami as they successfully restricted Los Angeles and protected the lead. The relief pitcher Steve Cishek finished the last inning scoreless. As a result, he won his 11th save of the
season.
Meanwhile Stanton has spoken about his strategy toward goals and how little he keeps them in mind while he plays. He is of the view that instead of meticulously setting objectives he focuses on playing.
“I don't set goals for myself. I just try to be the best I can be, and then all the numbers will come,” he said. “But don't be barking off, 'I'm going to do this or that.'"
The series has concluded now. Ending it with a victory is a healthy sign for the Marlins. They will be hoping to keep winning matches in a similar fashion in the upcoming games.
