Miami Marlins prospect Derek Dietrich inherited baseball talent-MLB Update
One of the infield prospects for the Miami Marlins, Derek Dietrich, enjoyed the luxury of the guidance of the experts of the game as he grew up.
While he was a child, he played baseball with his maternal grandfather and learned how to hit and make plays in the field from him.
The time has come now when he can convert his years of experience into becoming a regular major league player.
Dietrich was acquired by the Marlins through a trade during the Baseball Winter Meetings.
He is one of those players that are considered a part of the campaign of the Marlins to build up a strong team in the future.
After they removed stars from the roster through a couple of trades, the club lost the status of being a formidable opposition.
Resultantly, talks started to emerge as to what measures that the Marlins are taking to construct a new team, which can ensure success in the years to come.
Inclusion of Dietrich by the Marlins points to their preparations for the future.
As for the position of Dietrich in the field, he has been playing at various spots within the infield in the minor league. That means the Marlins can use him at any position as infielder and expect better results.
However in order to prepare for the major league, Dietrich is trying to stick to the second and the third base.
Talking about the role his grandfather played in teaching him the baseball skills, he has recalled one of the games that he played when he was extremely young.
"Some of my fondest memories are when my grandfather was managing the Erie SeaWolves," he said. "I was taking batting practice at second base, trying to hit the ball over the fence when I was around 6 or 7 years old. All the guys were cheering me on during
batting practice. I've got a lot of memories."
Although Dietrich is familiar with the game since he was growing up, it is not the guarantee that he will reach heights of success as major leaguer.
Only through sheer hard work and constant improvements in batting and fielding skills, he can become a star player.
The Marlins will be hoping that he puts up impressive performances while playing in the minors and take his journey to the major league level soon.
