Miami Marlins record 3-1 win against St. Louis Cardinals in 2012 Grapefruit League - MLB Update
Anibal Sanchez lifts Miami Marlins with four strike-outs as they beat St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida on March 29, 2012 in their Grapefruit League clash.
Enduring an injury prone shoulder, many believed that Sanchez will not be part of Marlins' rotation. As he threw 71 pitches in the game and showed little discomfort with his shoulder, he is
now all set to assume his role in the season.
Ever since start of Spring Training, much anticipated hits from Jose Reyes have yet to materialise. Known for stealing bases and manufacturing runs, he has somehow let down most of the Marlins'
fans. Even in today’s game, he connected just one hit on four at-bats.
Second baseman Daniel Murphy made one hit in two at-bats he faced. He completed one run in the process.
Third baseman, Hanley Ramirez was unable to come up with something he is renowned for. As he managed one hit on two at-bats, he was hardly able to generate any activity on bases.
Cardinals can take heart from the fact that their starter Lance Lynn in the absence of Chris Carpenter gave signs of turning up equally reliable. Though he was hit a homer, he took three-strike-outs
in five innings he pitched. Giving up five hits and walking one, he conceded one earned run.
"If he gives us outings like that we're going to be very happy," said Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny. "He came in with the mindset of being a late reliever and to make the transition isn't
always the easiest thing. He's made a good transition."
Out of four hits Cardinals managed in the whole game, two were by their right fielder Carlos Beltran. He came across four at-bats and as he completed one run, he drew one RBI in the process.
As count down for regular season starts, Marlins will be concerned that they have not amassed much runs in Spring Training. Most of the victories they experienced have resulted from high quality
pitching they saw from their hurlers.
In this context, they have to find their way out otherwise it will take only a single bad day from their pitchers and they will be right on their knees.
