Miami Marlins rubbish reports of Heath Bell trade for Alex Rodriguez - MLB Update
The rumours that Miami Marlins are going to trade Heath Bell with third baseman Alex Rodriguez of New York Yankees are not true, as sources are reporting. There have been myriad of speculations surfacing with regard to the acquisition of Rodriguez by the
Marlins.
Rodriguez has been a disappointment for the Yankees this year. Unable to do justice with the mammoth contract accorded to him by the club, he has not performed well in the crucial matches.
Keeping this in mind, it will hardly be a surprise if the Yankees unload him in the offseason from the roster and obtain Heath Bell in exchange.
On the other hand, it is understandable that the Marlins desperately need a reliable third baseman.
Their offence battled all through the season. It became one of the reasons of their failure. Along with it, their position players have been equally unimpressive with regard to making plays and displaying co-ordination in the field.
In light of this, inclusion of Rodriguez in the line-up can go a long way in removing offensive woes of the club. Although Rodriguez was far from satisfactory in the current season, he is capable of winning matches single-handedly.
Until the official declaration with regard to trade negotiations is made, nothing can be said with certainty that whether the agreement will materialise or not.
The speculations concerning a trade basically stemmed from informal conversations between the Yankees’ president, Randy Levine and Marlins’ owner, Jeffrey Loria, as per the reports. Their casual gossips included the discussion about trade but how serious
both of them were in it has not yet been determined.
“None of the sources could give an indiction as to how serious the discussions have already gotten, but one of them close to the Marlins’ ownership said he believed the trade made sense for both sides, and would eventually be made in some form,” Keith Olbermann
stated in his blog for mlb.com.
Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman has denied that talks have taken place in this regard, calling the rumours baseless and far from reality.
As the days progress, further developments in this regard will unfold. It will be fascinating to keep track of them and watch out for details.
