Miami Marlins shut-out Cincinnati Reds 4-0 as Jacob Turner shines - MLB Update

Starter Jacob Turner allows two hits as the Miami Marlins outclass the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 at Marlins Park, Miami on September 14, 2012 in the first match of the three game series.
In the face of a quiet Reds’ offence, Marlins did not have to be extraordinary on Friday to fetch victory from them.
Reds managed only three hits in the whole game. No wonder they were unable to post even a single run on the score-board.
On the other hand, by scoring four runs in a span of three innings Miami ended up victorious.
Turner stepped up for Miami on Friday. The seven scoreless innings that he completed were enough to demoralise batters. The chunk of the damage to the opposition was wreaked by him.
Although he did not strike-out many, he restricted hits and foiled attempts for massive home-runs.
After he left, relievers kept the pressure on the opposition intact. Both Heath Bell and Steve Cishek finished their innings scoreless. They hardly offered any opportunity to Cincinnati for launching a late innings onslaught.
Offensively third baseman Greg Dobbs slammed a home-run on Friday for Miami. He went 2- for-4 at the plate.
Turner explains his strategy toward batters in the match. By putting them under pressure early on, he made it difficult for them to manage hits. For a rookie like Turner, winning the match is always great for his confidence. He will be looking to keep his
momentum going as he starts next time.
“I was aggressive early, trying to get ahead as much as I could,” Turner said. “If you’re behind and you give them too much, they’re going to take advantage of it.”
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen praises Turner for throwing the pitches in the right spot and not allowing hitters to find their feet against him.
“You keep the ball around the plate, you’re going to have a chance to pitch good games,” Guillen said. “I think that’s what he did. The ball was moving very well, and the location was good.”
Marlins will be looking to clinch the series sweep at the moment. They can go a long way in this regard by carrying their current momentum forward.
