Miami Marlins sign John Maine to a minor league contract – MLB News
The Miami Marlins have signed pitcher John Maine to a Minor League contract who will now compete the fifth spot in the starting rotation in the Major League. With an invitation for Spring Training, the former New York Mets starter is getting another chance
to play in the big league.
He is an experienced player and knows his game well. Currently he holds a good career record of 4.35 ERA along with 41-36 win-loss and 492 strikeouts.
Along with Maine’s signing with the Marlins, the Miami side is also looking deep into improving their team’s overall stats. The Marlins management wants a potential trade for right fielder Giancarlo Stanton which will create a room to bring some more quality
pitchers for the next Major League Baseball season.
"I know in the 10 years I've been here that's our M.O, We've never not listened to a deal on any player,” Jennings told Jim Bowden and Jody McDonald on MLB Network Radio's The Front Office.
He added, "In Giancarlo Stanton you've got a 22 year old guy that we think going forward has got a chance to be a .300 hitter and [hit] 50 home runs and be a guy that is a big-time run producer. So while we're not shopping him, certainly not looking to
move him, yeah, if someone knocked on our door and said, 'Hey, would you guys consider this and this and this,' you have to listen."
Stanton was quite consistent in the last Major League Baseball season and showed good commitment on the field and with the bat. He hit well and achieved consistent batting average of .290 along with 37 home runs, 86 RBIs and .361 OBP. Overall he also possesses
good career numbers of .270 hitting average along with 93 home runs, 232 RBIs and .350 OBP.
Meanwhile, experts believe that all these potential developments are a healthy sign for the Miami Marlins, but still the time will tell that how well they implemented all these new changes in the roster. Signing new players always helps but Marlins also
need to focus on their current roster and its strengths.
