Miami Marlins still chasing Yoenis Cespedes – MLB News
The Miami Marlins are still chasing Cuban defector and potential free agent Yoenis Cespedes in order to offer him a Major League deal. Cespedes is currently in Dominican Republic and seeking an officially free agency from the MLB authorities.
While sources are reporting that Cespedes is still on the Marlins top priority list despite their recent efforts to add Prince Fielder is all over in media. Though, the Marlins did not deny any further development in Fielder’s signing but they did assure Cespedes’ potential chances of signing with them in the near future.
Marlins' President David Samson has recently told the media regarding Cespedes and his possible arrival in the Marlins roster. He also explained why Cespedes is important for the Marlins’ franchise especially for the next couple of seasons.
Samson said, “Aggressive right to the point of stupidity, but not quite there. We think he’s a perfect fit for us, but it has to be sane. [We've] expressing interest, going to visit, making it very clear to his representatives and to him and his family that we think he should not be anywhere other than Miami. As a Cuban and someone in the DR, it makes perfect sense. We expect he will be a significant sign. We have a perfect position for him to play. It would be great. I think that we’re right in there.”
Though the media has yet to report an official word from Cespedes and his agent but still inside sources have reported that both Cespedes and his agent responding positively on the Marlins late statements.
Cespedes certainly is a good player but recently he is facing some Major League Baseball rules which restrict him to be a free agent having defected from the Cuban National Baseball team and coming to the Dominican Republic to seek free agency. But progress has been made in Cespedes’ particular case who is getting anxious to become a Major League member.
However, as far as Marlins’ are concerned over Cespedes’ arrival in their franchise, they are pretty much sitting relaxed and just watching how their future prospect will be coming out from this complex situation.
