Miami Marlins surpassed by Colorado Rockies 3-5 as Ricky Nolasco loses control in seventh - MLB

The starter Ricky Nolasco gives up five runs as the Miami Marlins lose to Colorado Rockies 3-5 at Coors Field, Denver, Colorado in the first game of the four match series on August 16, 2012.
The Marlins despite leading from the start failed to restrict Rockies late in the innings. Their starting pitcher Nolasco kept them in contention for most part of the game. However, the two runs he allowed in the sixth and the seventh each led to the defeat
of the team.
Meanwhile, Miami's batters once again struggled to perform under pressure. While throughout the game their offence brought hits but when the Rockies blew the lead and just a few innings remained they succumbed to the pressure.
Apart from the first baseman Carlos Lee and right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, most of the Marlins’ batters were hitless on Thursday.
Lee hammered a home-run while facing three at-bats. Similarly, Stanton struck a home-run on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Nolasco regrets after becoming an easy prey late in the innings and costing the Marlins the game. He maintains that while he was successful in blocking runs in the beginning, handful of poor throws plagued the whole effort and resulted into the
blowing of the team’s lead in the end.
"I had (Rutledge) 0-2 and couldn't make a pitch, and you saw what happened," Nolasco said. "You make good pitches all night and then make a couple of mistakes, and that's the game. I left that ball up to Cuddyer. He's such a good hitter. He got the important
hit to tie the (game), and things got out of control in the seventh inning."
Similarly, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen believes that it was more due to the lack of run support from the hitters than the poor innings by Nolasco they were beaten.
"Overall, Nolasco pitched well," Guillen said. "We didn't score enough runs."
The series still has three games remaining. Therefore, the Marlins by working out issues with their offence can put up improved shows and win games as a result.
Similarly, they will be looking to witness their starters throwing more scoreless innings in the upcoming matches.
