Miami Marlins to embark on a new era as new season approaches – MLB Update
The Miami Marlins, formerly Florida Marlins, have done a lot already in the offseason. Although it is still early, the Marlins have already voiced their aggressive approach. The team is not staying behind in extending offers to the top free agents, including
Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols and Mark Buehrle.
On November 11, the Marlins unveiled their new name, new logo, uniform and most importantly their own ballpark is South Florida. Suddenly rich on cash, the management is aiming to go all-out in a bid to improve the ballclub and ensure that the team achieves
nothing less than a postseason berth in 2012.
The team is not hesitant in signing big names and the players have expressed an interest as well, beefing-up talks that the Marlins might become a force to reckon in the next season. Former officials and stakeholders have stressed that the new season will
embark a new era for the Marlins and it ismost likely to be a long one.
Former general manager Dave Dambrowski agreed to this notion and said, “I guess only time will tell, but my instincts are yes. I think that baseball can be successful in South Florida. I know a lot of people don’t agree with that. But I do believe it. I
think it can be a very good market.”
The Marlins will play in their own ballpark after a gap of almost 20 years and the ownership believes that it will bring back enthusiasm to the franchise. The Marlins finished last in the National League East division this past season, failing to make a
mark against healthy oppositions. Now that the ballclub is undergoing radical changes, it will be interesting to see how the team performs against the like of Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves in their division.
The New York Mets have decided to slash their payroll for the next season and thus might not be as competitive as they were during 2011. The Washington Nationals are going all-out to ensure stability in the roster and have shown intent to sign big names
for the next season, but it still remains to be seen as to how things unfold.
