Miami Marlins trounced 2-10 by Boston Red Sox as Randy Choate crumbles on the mound-MLB Update
Relief pitcher Randy Choate dithers on the mound as the Miami Marlins face a 2-10 defeat against the Boston Red Sox at Marlins Park, Miami in third game of the three match series on June 13, 2012.
Boston started slowly but went on a rampage in the eighth, scoring six runs in one inning alone.
While Boston kept adding runs occasionally, the Marlins offered little to stymie them. Going scoreless in first five innings, it was another day, demonstrating fundamentals frailties with their offence.
Miami had their first run scored in the sixth and second in the seventh. Other than this, they endured the drought. Making just four hits, in stark contrast to impressive 14 hits by Red Sox, failure was destined for them.
Shortstop Jose Reyes keeps his typical performance going as he went 1-for-3. If he has not sparked with massive home-runs in the season, he has been steady at-least. However, he still has to justify with expensive off-season contract he was awarded by the
Marlins.
Ricky Nolasco started for Miami. While initial few innings were fine, later on, he loosed momentum and succumbed to quality hits being struck.
He threw six innings and gave up four runs, while striking-out four.
The most interesting scene of the game came when Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen and relief pitcher Heath Bell bickered over continuing with the throws. Bell wanted to complete the inning, while manager decided to scratch him and allow another reliever.
Matter was trivialised later on by Bell, who believed that it was due to misunderstanding and had nothing to do with personal grudges.
"It was basically like two bulls hit in the head," Bell said. "Ozzie was upset we were losing. I just said, 'I can get this guy out.' ... I apologize. I didn't mean any disrespect. It could have been huge, but it really wasn't."
Guillen seconded Bell’s words.
"I thought I overheard something," Guillen said. "We already talked about it, and it's over with. It's not a big deal. I thought I heard something different."
Regardless of what happened between them, a big worry for Marlins is regaining momentum. Upcoming games will decide where their fate is heading.
