Miami Marlins without Edward Mujica as they send him to St. Louis Cardinals - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins, knowing the certainty of their dismal fate in the season, have not hesitated to send their relief pitcher Edward Mujica to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals on the other hand has acquired him with the hope that he will lift their bullpen and will play a major role in recording victories for them late in the innings.
Without Mujica, the Marlins’ already struggling bullpen will be weakened further. Among the relievers that have betrayed the club so often in the season, Mujica has been an exception to some extent.
As he has posted 4.28 ERA with an incredible WHIP 1.13, in relative terms he has been far better than the most of the relievers in the Marlins’ bullpen.
It is for the same reason that his entry in the Cardinals’ bullpen has been taken as a positive move regarding the organisation’s quest for winning the play-off spot in the season.
Meanwhile, Mujica is surprised by his trade. Unprepared for it, he believes that though he can understand the business side of it, his wife will be thoroughly discomforted.
Trying to battle with the reality, Mujica asserts that he must be positive minded at this time as opposed to taking the move to heart and losing focus.
In this connection, he vows to deliver his best for the Cardinals. He is looking forward to stay in this organisation for the next couple of years.
"I’ll do my best to see if these guys keep me for one more year, maybe two or three more years," Mujica said. "It’s a good team. I’m glad to be here."
Meanwhile, the reliever talks of the fact that the decision will not be taken pleasantly by his wife. Departing from the place with which one has spent time is always tough for a player.
"That’s part of the business. I take it like that. But my wife — I don’t think she took it like that," Mujica stated. "It’s tough leaving. … For me, I have to think positive right now. I’m here because they want me to be here."
As Mujica plays games for the Cardinals, it will be interesting to see to what extent he can help the team win matches.
