The Miami Redhawks were victorious last night against the Bowling Green Falcons, winning 24-21 on a last-second 33-yard field goal kicked by Trevor Cook. This brings the Redhawks record to 6-4 and keeps their hopes alive of winning the Mid-American
Conference (MAC) while the loss brings Bowling Green’s record to 2-8.
Game highlights
The first quarter was a defensive struggle up until with 4:58 left Redhawks senior running back Thomas Merriweather came through with an 18-yard touchdown run, getting Miami on the board.
Bowling Green tied the game up at the 8:28 mark of the second quarter on a 12-yard pass by Falcons quarterback Matt Schilz to tight end Alex Bayer. The game remained tied until Miami broke the deadlock with
a one-yard touchdown run where Redhawks quarterback Zac Dysert called his own number and ran into the end zone.
The third quarter was another defensive fight until Miami managed another touchdown with 2:40 left in the quarter. This time, Dysert threw a 22-yard pass to wide out Nick Harwell. This brought the score
up to 21-7 going into the fourth quarter.
For most of the fourth quarter, it was all Falcons, as they controlled the ball well and refused to go down easy. Bowling Green’s leading rusher, running back Willie Geter, led his team to two touchdowns,
the first coming at 13:27 of the fourth on a one-yard run. The second came on a two-yard run, tying the game at 21-21 with just under seven minutes to play. This set the stages for the heroics of Miami’s Trevor Cook, who booted a 33-yard field goal on the
final play of the game to give the Redhawks a much needed victory.
Game leading statistics
Redhawks quarterback Dysert had 19 completions in 25 attempts for 221 yards and one touchdown. His counterpart, Falcons Matt Schilz, managed only 17 completions on 29 attempts worth a
pedestrian 179 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

What happens now?
The Redhawks, with the victory, have brought themselves into a three way tie for first place with Temple and Ohio and have made themselves eligible for a bowl game for the first time since
2005.
The Redhawks remaining schedule includes Wednesday 17 November against Akron, and finishing up against Temple on the 23 November.
Temple has two games left as well, but both will have implications as to their final standings in the conference. The Owls play Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday 16 November, and Miami a week later.
The Ohio Bobcats play Temple, and finish up against Kent State on the 26 November.
For Temple, Ohio and Miami, one loss in any of those games could put them out of contention for the MAC championship game.
