I keep hearing rumors about Miami downtown being dangerous place especially in the evenings. Since me and a friend will be staying at the Hilton there soon we just wanted to make sure. I've also heard is awful that the Hilton there is awful, does anybody know? Is it far from South beach (we do not drive)? Can anybody recommend a hotel on South Beach in case we deiced to ditch Hilton?

  1. Ditch the Hilton on Biscayne. Maybe it was nice once upon a time but no more.

All of Biscayne Boulevard is WAY too dangerous, even during the day, never mind at night. (crackheads and hookers) And there's nothing to do in the area, our public transport system leaves a lot to be desired, and it's too dangerous to be waiting on the sidewalk for a bus, and even to ride it.

There are a lot of hotels on South Beach that you will like.  As recommended, the Fountainbleau is always nice, but I don't know how the rates are, these days.  There's always lots of people out and about and you can walk to wherever you want to go. My friends came from the UK and stayed on So. Beach and just absolutely loved it.  DITCH THE HILTON

  2. Yes, it somewhat is. But since it's downtown, its not as bad as some of the residential neighborhoods (eg:Little Haiti, Wynwood, Liberty City). If you want to live the best of  Miami, you'll have to look for a hotel which is outside the city limits of Miami and consider some suburbs like South Beach for your resort.

Miami proper is a degenerate crime-ridden city with corrupted politics. You should only visit it briefly during your trip and concentrate yourself  on more tourist-friendly places like South Beach, Miami Beach and Coral Springs. Plus the beaches in Miami proper are remarquably ugly.

And to the idiot who called me an idiot and posted right after me: if Miami is such a great place to spend vacations then how come in your post you've suggested the asker to go to South Beach and to stay away from  Miami? Stupid.

  3. the idiot who just said miami beaches are ugly is obviously BLIND, i would stay at South Beach, that Hilton area is ghetto Miami and has NOTHING near it except homeless stinky money beggars. i just ate ate at Bayside Marketplace which is the only attraction near that Hilton and right when our food came out a homeless lady came up to us and asked for some of our food! and its the second time thats has happened to us there!!

  4. Areas of Biscayne Blvd. in Miami are dangerous, especially around downtown. Overall, if you have a hotel and stay there though you won't run into too much crime. Just don't walk into any areas you're unaware of, and be street smart.

Plus, enjoy yourself. Miami is great!

  5. If you don't have a car, you'll be happier on South Beach.  There is a small Hilton on SoBe.    The downtown Miami Hilton is on a commercial Boulevard.  It's safe bt you'll need to pay for transportation to get anywhere outside of downtown & there isn't that much downtown.

  6. The Fountain Belau

    4441 Collins Ave

    Miami Beach, FL 33140

    (305) 538-2000

Is a safe place to stay. Biscayne Blvd. on the other hand, is full of crack hotels. you are well safe on the beach side.
