Miandad believes Pakistani players “brag” about their performance
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 said that the Pakistani cricket players have a habit to brag about their performances and are happy to do so in the media.
“We keep on reading and hearing about some of the players making claims about how they will deliver, but on field that is not happening and it is a big let-down for the nation”, Miandad said.
The Director General of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) urged the players to focus on their game and not to brag about their eventual “failing” performances.
He suggested that the players should learn from the professionalism of Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who always lets his bat do all the talking.
“They should learn from Sachin who has had a wonderful career and scored century after century but one never hear him making tall claims about his performances or achievements”, Miandad addressed a press-conference.
He also advised them to take every match seriously and stated that it is high time to realise that cricket is “played on the field”.
Pakistan is currently touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 for a six-match One Day series ahead of the World Cup that is scheduled to begin from 19 February in the Sub-continent.
The touring party suffered a humiliating defeat in the first ODI by a side that had slumped to eight losses in a row. The men in green were bowled out by the Black Caps in 37.4 overs for a mere 124 runs. Daniel Vettori and his men wrapped up the opening
game in just 74 minutes.
He added that the ongoing series will largely affect the World Cup preparation for the country.
“It is important for the players to realize that once they get into a losing streak it will be difficult”, the 124 Tests veteran stated.
He said that he is left flabbergasted by the relaxed attitude of the players in the first ODI. He said that even though the team has the ability to win the series, their habit of bragging will bring them down.
Miandad also offered some advice for the One Day captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 to take more responsibility as a skipper.
He added that “Imran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 is great example of how a captain should be”, suggesting Afridi to lead as an individual and the team will follow.
He declined to comment on the captaincy issue for the World Cup but offered his support to Afridi that he has the talent but needs to capitalize on it properly.
