Miandad calls for revival of Indo-Pak cricket ties – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, has stressed the importance of reviving the bilateral cricketing ties between Pakistan and India, saying the resumption of relations can serve a larger purpose for the entire sub-continent.
“It is the in the larger interest of sub-continent cricket to revive Pakistan-India cricket and there should be a bilateral series on a regular basis,” said Miandad, who is renowned for his match-winning last-ball six against India in a Sharjah cup match.
The bilateral ties between the two countries reached a breaking point in 2008, following the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 terrorist attacks which led to further deterioration of the already strained diplomatic ties between the two nations. The sporting ties between the two neighbouring
teams, who played their last bilateral series in India during 2007, also came to an abrupt standstill.
Since then, the teams have only played each other in international tournaments such as the ICC World Cup 2011 (which was hosted by India), and more recently the Asia Cup held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this year in March. The Pakistani players featured in the very first
edition of the Indian Premier League (2008), but have been barred from the event’s auctions since then.
However, recent gestures on the part of both the BCCI and PCB indicate that the resumption of cricketing ties between the two historic arch-rivals might be on the cards. In addition to having allowed Pakistan’s T20 champions, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions, to play
in the upcoming Champions League T20, the Indian board also recently invited PCB chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 to watch the IPL final in Chennai.
Ashraf used his visit to India to initiate a discussion on the possibility of the two teams playing a bilateral series later this year – a cause he has been pushing for since his appointment as PCB chief last year.
“The present regime of PCB under the leadership of Chairman Zaka Ashraf is striving to break the dead lock in this regard,” said Miandad, appreciating Ashraf’s efforts.
The chairman’s exertions appear to have yielded results, however, as both boards have announced that a short bilateral series will be played between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s meeting
in Kuala Lumpur later this month.
