Mic Auprince outperforms in 100m back-stroke: Day three – Australian Age Multi Class Championships
Mic Auprince of University of NSW outperformed his competitors in the Boys 100m back-stroke while competing in 17-18 years old category on day three of the 2011 Australian Age Multi Class Championships. The session ended on Sunday, October 9, at the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
The last night of the championship began with the scintillating effort of 18-year-old Auprince, whose commendable efforts in the double-lap back-stroke swim placed him on the medal rostrum for gold medal. Auprince, who falls in the disability class S9 and
B8, remained prominent for top finish throughout the race.
With his forceful efforts in the first lap of the swim, he gained a wonderful lead over his competitors. The gold medallist swam his way towards the other end of the pool in magnificent manner and completed his first lap in a time of 31.13 seconds. Auprince’s
swim placed him 2.63 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Bradley Jones of Queanbeyan, who followed his lead and ended his first lap in 33.76 seconds.
The champion paced up his swim in the second lap, where he reached the finishing end with a timing of 34.08 seconds to post 1 minute and 05.21 seconds on the board. With his superb timing, he extended his lead to 4.61 seconds and claimed the title of the
discipline. In the meantime, 17-year-old Jones, who has the disability lass of S15, appeared on the finishing wall for the silver medal, clocking a time of 1 minute and 09.82 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Liam Smith of WA Kalamunda, who was considerably slower than his former finishers, but stepped on the podium for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 16.74 seconds. Smith remained 0.47 seconds ahead of his
subsequent swimmer, Eastern Shore’s T McLaughlin, who settled fourth in the respective meet with a timing of 1 minute and 17.21 seconds.
The arena acknowledged the heart-winning efforts of all podium finishers who demonstrated their stunning skills to score gold medals, while the championship ended after the session’s completion.
