Micah Buzianis and Valerie Arrighetti win respective fleets in 2012 PWA Ulsan Korea World Cup
After displaying some classy windsurfing skills at the Jinha beach, Micah Buzianis and Valerie Arrighetti were able to win their respective fleets. Both Micah Buzianis and Valerie Arrighetti had a tremendous run from the beginning of the 2012 PWA Ulsan Korea
World Cup. The wind conditions over the racecourse were quite ideal which added more spice to the terrific performance of both windsurfers.
The final day of the regatta saw some twists and turns in the standings because the racing podiums shifted during the final day proceedings. The tricky Korean waters under a bit stronger weather conditions continued to create problems for the fleets but
it was not harsh enough to abandon the races.
During the racing in the Men’s Division, the legendary windsurfer Bjorn Dunkerbeck suffered a severe cut to his foot after a plastic bag caught around his fin and he crashed.
Speaking to the media after the incident, Dunkerbeck said, “I caught a plastic bag around my fin. I jumped a few times to try and clear it but it didn’t work. On the landing from one of the jumps, the nose of the board ploughed into the wave in front and
my front foot went underneath the board and slammed into the fin.”
He added, “The next thing I knew, I was lying in the water with a deep cut in my foot. I knew there was no way I could continue. Luckily when I arrived at the hospital I was told there is no tendon damage.”
However, the rest of the participants continued the competition. Buzianis jumped from sixth place to the fourth spot with a classy shift during the final proceedings and was able to hit the top podium.
