Micah Lawrence conquers Women’s 200m breast-stroke title – ConocoPhillips National Championships
Micah Lawrence clinched the gold medal of Women’s 200m breast-stroke meet on day five of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Saturday, August 6, in Palo Alto, California
The national championship is a long course competition, where the best of American athletes swim against each other to defend the titles of their exclusive events.
Lawrence occupied the top position of the event, by reporting in a remarkable time of 2 minutes and 27.06 seconds. Her time was 6.94 seconds ahead of the world mark of 2 minutes and 20.12 seconds, set by Annamay Pierse of Canada at the 2009 World Championships
in Rome.
She was also 6.84 seconds away from improving the American mark of 2 minutes and 20.22 seconds, made by Rebecca Soni of USA in 2008. In addition, she was also 6.68 seconds away from the US Open and Long Course National mark of 2 minutes and 20.38 seconds,
held by Soni from 2009.
The gold medallist was in a lead of just 0.03 seconds over her closest swimmer, Haley Spencer of Minnesota Aquatic, who stepped on the podium for silver medal, with timing of 2 minutes and 27.09 seconds. Spencer managed a lead of 0.48 seconds over her following
swimmer, Michael McKeehan of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who submitted a time of 2 minutes and 27.57 seconds for bronze medal.
McKeehan out-touched her subsequent swimmer, Andrea Kropp of Rattler Swim Club, with a difference of 0.04 seconds, as Kropp transpired as fourth finest finisher on the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 27.61 seconds.
Katy Freeman of Santa Barbara Aquatic was the fifth best finisher of the event, as she posted 2 minutes and 27.87 seconds. She was followed by Emma Schoettmer of Center Grove Aquatic and Laura Sogar of Bluefish Swim Club, who settled as the sixth and seventh
position holders, with timings of 2:28.00 and 2:28.04 minutes, respectively. Ashley Wanland of Wisconsin Aquatic was the eighth finisher, as she posted 2 minutes and 29.45 seconds.
In addition, winners were awarded medals and accolades for their stupendous performances after the session.
