Micah Richards believes Manchester City can win the FA Cup
Manchester City defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 believes his side can win the FA Cup and end their 35-year trophy drought.
The defender said that his team is well capable of winning the competition after they beat Aston Villa 3-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium on Wednesday. The Citizens will face Reading at home after the latter won against Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park.
Richards insisted that it is a clash the Manchester side can definitely win but they cannot be over confident. He said that City cannot be complacent and take Reading as any other opposition.
“My belief is that we can win this competition [the FA Cup] – and most of the things that we’re in – with this squad. It’s important that we don’t get complacent and think we’re there already,” said Richards in an interview.
The defender admitted that he is disappointed for not winning a trophy with the Club. He said that he envied teams like Birmingham who won the Carling Cup recently. But the right-back remains confident that his side would be able to win the competition and
that would surely get the pressure off them a bit to strive for more success in the future.
Richards added that he is confident that his team can qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League and remain in the top four at the end of the 2010-11 season. He said that it would be a shame if they did not qualify for Europe’s premier competition next
season with the quality City have and the performances they have put so far.
“With the team we’ve got and the way we’ve played up to now, it would be a real disappointment if we didn’t get in there. We’ve got great players here already and, once we get that Champions League spot, I would expect more to arrive,” the defender was quoted
as saying.
Manchester City face Reading at the City of Manchester Stadium on 13 March, 2011 in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. The Citizens are currently third on the Premier League table with 50 points and look all set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next
season.
