Manchester City defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 has expressed his disappointment at the unfair refereeing that cost City a spot in the Carling Cup finals.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and City squared off in the Carling cup and with the Reds goings into the game with a one goal advantage, the Manchester based club were looking to go all out.
City took the lead in the gave via http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 converted from the spot.
Edin Dzeko scored again in the second half, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 levelled things in the game with just fifteen minutes left in the clock.
As a result of the draw and Liverpool having a one goal advantage, the Reds went through, while City crashed out of the tournament.
Richards, along with almost every single other person associated with City believes that Liverpool should have never been awarded a penalty.
A http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884 shot was struck from distance and it bounced off the player’s foot and collided with his hand. The defender could have done nothing to prevent the ball from hitting him on the arm and his actions were purely unintentional. However, the referee
still managed to point to the spot.
When talking about the referee’s decision, which potentially cost City the game, Richards is quoted to have said: “I think the referee made a poor decision for the penalty, it’s hit my foot and gone onto my hand I don’t know what he expects me to do with
that.
“As a decision I wouldn’t say it cost us today but it played a massive part.
“It’s hurting, everyone goes on about respecting the referees but it’s their decisions that are sometimes costing us. I give my full support to the referees but those sort of decisions unless you’re 100% sure you shouldn’t really be giving them.”
This is not the first time a referee’s decision has seen a match go down the drain and it most certainly won’t be the last.
Nonetheless, despite conceding a cheap penalty what City did do, was put up a performance that their fans would be proud off.
