Miccosukee Championship; Svoboda and Jobe top the 1st day leaderboard
Andrew Svoboda and Brandt Jobe carded 8-under-63 in the first round of the Miccosukee Championship, which is taking place in Miami. Svoboda took the advantage of his early eagles, whereas, Jobe made use of his superb GIR percentage
to seize the top of the leaderboard.
The amateur who hails from Vermont, Keegan Bradley, carded a 7-under-64 and took a share in third spot of the leaderboard. He was joined by David Hearn.
Next on the leaderboard were Jason Gore and Michael Putnam. The duo fired a 65 and took the fifth spot. The pair was followed by a group of seven players at 5-under-par.
The club house leader, Jobe was very excited with the overall scores. He told this to the press with a smile on his face. He said, “I played here on Tuesday and I saw the scores driving in and thought 'my god they're shooting low’......
I just didn't see it happening.... With the soft greens and the fairways become a little wider so you're not in the Bermuda and it's not so dry so it's flying -- all those things add up."
Thursday rains made the greens accessible for the players. This was the reason that for the first time in the seven-year history of the tournament, a scoring average of 70.174 was touched.
Coming back to the leaders, Jobe and Svoboda are hungry for the lead, but apart from it they have some long term plans for the rest of the current season. Jobe, who made 16 hits- in-regulations, is eyeing a finish in the top-25.
Currently he is 23rd on the money list and he will want to rise by the end of this tournament.
He told the press, "I told my caddie I'm looking for 11 more good rounds; I took last week off to get my mind right so I can come out and play three solid golf tournaments. That'll take care of things for me and get me back where
I've been. I'm getting old so we'll see how many years I have left!"
The reason behind rising in the money list is the 2011 PGA tour card. Only the top-25 money winners at the Nationwide Tour Championship will earn that card. The much awaited event will take place at Daniel Island.
As for Svoboda, he has played in 26 events on the nationwide tour and has reached the 54th spot on the money list. According to the PGA authorities only the top-60 will make their way into the Tour Championship.
The American native is confident that he will reach his goal, if he keeps up the hard work. He told the press that he knew he will get the card with the type of performance he gave in the first round of the tournament. He was
satisfied with his putting, which helped him ace the par-5, 10th-hole.
As for the third position holder, Keegan Bradley did a stupendous job. The 24-year old is the nephew of Pat Bradley. The rookie is already ahead of the queue for the tour card; he is 12th in the nationwide tour with
three top-5 finishes in last three weeks.
According to the rookie, he does not find difficulty in the game; in fact he perceives it to be the same as last year. He further added that he was happy over his performance and was looking forward for the next season.
This is it for the first round of the Miccosukee Championship, which falls under the nationwide tour. The event has stepped in the second round and very soon the results will start pouring in. Andrew Svoboda and Brandt Jobe have
entered the round as the leaders with a score of 63. To find out more about the Miccosukee Championship, switch to Bettor.com.
