we have some mice in our house, and they are eating peanutbutter and cheese off of the traps without setting it off, or they set the trap and get away before it hits them. is some other bait to put on the traps, or are these rats that are too big to get caught in our little mouse traps.

  1. a chocolate chip or a piece of string in the peanut butter works.

  2. get a cat you will get rid of your mice problem.

  3. It's hard for a mouse to set off a trap and walk away.  I'm guessing you may have rats.  One way to find out:

Buy some snap rat traps.  Victor makes good ones.  The best price is at Wal-Mart.

Wrap a piece of thread 2 or 3 times around the bait and trigger.  You don't need to tie the thread.  For the peanut butter bait, do it loosely enough so that the thread rests on top of the pb, and does not cut through it.  You will see results.

If you want to go the extra mile, you can also put 1 drop of olive oil onto the part of the trigger that meets the latch.  It will help it slide easier.  Not more than 1 drop, otherwise the rodent may focus on that and not the bait...  i.e., the rodent won't be in the proper position when the trap springs.  Don't use WD-40 or other machine lubricants, they will repel your quarry.

  4. Mice are pretty smart. They will do that.

    Try Bar Bait. It works.

    Just one bite bar bait.
