  1. W bought one for our 3 year old daughter, she helps feed it and give it water... the cage always STINKS to high heaven... I have to clean it FULLY every 2 days.

I just suck up the old bedding with a vacuum hose :)

  2. thats the nastiest pet!

  3. Mice make wonderful, friendly pets if you handle them everyday.

Best choice is to have at least two females as they are communial animals and male mice tend to fight!

Females also don't tend to produce that strong 'musky' smell either and unlike the males you can introduce another female without too much drama.

They need plenty of space so try to get the biggest cage you can and lots of toys. Empty toilet rolls, egg cartons and small cardboard boxes with a door cut out for them are cheap disposable playthings.

Also have a good running wheel as it will be used everyday without fail!

I make my mice their own food mix as I find it's fresher and tastier than the commercial products.

Natural muesli, combined with cockatiel seed is a good base.

Any leftovers from your own meals are good e.g cornflakes, mashed potato, toast etc and they love corn.

Please try to avoid meat, dairy products and sugary food.

Have had many years enjoying our mice and I'm sure you will too :)

  4. Definately get some mice, they are the cutest, funniest pets ever. I had 2 males, got them as babies and couldn't tell what gender they were until they grew up, luckily they were both the same, otherwise I may have been over-run. One was white called Snowy and one was tan with a white spot on his head called Browny. Unfortunately Snowy got a lump (think it was cancer) on his stomach and died at 1 yr old. Browny lived to the ripe old age of 3 yrs and died only a couple of months ago. He loved running on his wheel all day long, and whenever I cleaned his cage out I'd fill it up with water and drop him in. He loved swimming and it cleaned him as well. He also loved chewing on sticks and stuff and his absolute favourite food was pumpkin seeds. He loved them.

Some advice is definately get more than one, I'd say 2 is the best number. To make sure my cage was big enough, I got two plastic fish tanks, and cut a hole in the side of each and put a pipe between them, it gave each mouse his own home and territory but they could also socialise and share their food and water. It made more room for toys and houses and stuff. Never use leaves and stuff from the yard as bedding cause I did that and they got mites. I usually used fresh wood shavings, I'd just grab a bid of wood and plane the edge of it and then gather the shavings. But shredded paper's also good.

But yeah, mice are the best. They are so cute, the way they look at you just melts your heart and I loved the way their little noses twitched and their little beady eyes. My mice were Persian Mice, they were small and round with wavy, slightly longish fur. It was really soft. I really want to get some more but I'm going away on holiday next yr so I'll wait till I get back, but yeah, they are the best pets to have and they are soooo easy to take care of.

Oh by the way, never feed them cheese, it's not good for their digestive system, makes them smell to high heaven and it can make them very sick, depending on the health of the mouse it could even kill it. Just thought I'd warn you.

  5. what

  6. My mice are perfectly fine being handled. I've only been bitten once and I've had over 100 mice so far in my life. The males get along if they were raised together.

Mice don't jump well, so if you have a card table you can set up all sorts of fun play areas for them to run around on. You can leave most pet mice out on the table all day without worrying about them getting down, though I recommend periodic supervision.

  7. they are fine as pets. it would be better if your mouse is a baby and a small one so that you can make it learn what it is like to be in human hands. it doesn't take long to do that. they are pretty smart. don't be afraid to get it out of its cage, under surveillance of cource. if it happens to bite you sometime stop the bleeding and don't worry,it's harmless. if you need anything else, feel free to ask!:)

  8. I had a pet mouse and he was the best. They are A LOT better then hamsters and I have never been bit by one. My mouse liked being handle and was very calm :) They're good pets

  9. Mice are great pets!

I don't see why people think they're horrible or disgusting, they're adorable and make wonderful companions.

I love mine very much, and don't be let down by those people who go on about how gross they are, or that you should get a rat instead. I'm not saying rats are bad, they're just as great but if you think mice are better suited for you, then you should choose them.

    You'll love having them =)

  10. my brother had pet mice, and they were very sweet but they were very skittish too. We got one tame enough to climb into our hands but the other one just ran away whenever you put your hand in the cage.

they also poo on everything in their cage so when you clean their cage(once a week) you really have to scrub down on everything.

Also, do not get more than one male mouse, unless you have a really big cage because they WILL fight and very severely. We've witnessed that twice already, and one of our's died just a week ago from the mice bullying him all the time.

    Good luck!

  11. well i find them sooo sweet and they are so cute i have kept 2 girl ones and 2 boys mine loved to be handeled and i am too getting some more as mine sadly died and i miss thm lots good luck with yours they are intelligent animals but they are a bit fast and make sure you have a suitable cage as they can fit through most cage bars unless you keep them in a cage made for mice or a aquarium !!!!!!!! =)

  12. Rats are EXTREMELY much better than mice. Mice dont like to be handled but rats LOVE us.
