  1. gerbils dont bite and are social and nice and always cuddley. rats are gross and the size or your face, hamsters sleep all day long, mice are meant to run around your house and eat you cheese. i have 2 gerbils and they are the best. make sure if you go with gerbils, get 2 of the same gender and litter.

  2. gerbils are low maintenance

    rarely bite

    dont need frequent cage cleaning

    playful

    active

    athletic

can have more than one cage mate

    go to this site

  3. This isn't copied from anywhere.

Rats are the most intelligent and they are usually fairly tame and elegant, they are also usually the biggest, and are very smart. Ras require the most attention of small animals, and are very social critters, and like to be kept in pairs or more, and be interacted with. Rats can also learn small tricks, and learn to respond to their name. But some untamed Rats will bite and scratch. Rats also live fairly long. Rats are also very clean in general too though, but will stink if you don't clean out there cage on a regular basis.

Mice are the smallest in general and are usually a pleasure to watch because they are always so hyper, and love going in those running wheels. They don't live that long but they are cute and entertaining.

Dwarf hamsters are smaller than Syrians but have had tendency to be more aggresive towards there owner. Though unlike Syrians they like to be kept in groups, and they are fun to watch.

Syrian hamsters are pretty smelly, but they are usually pretty cuddly towards their owner, and they are easier to pick up than other small animals, they are pretty susceptible to diseases like Wet-tail though, and they don't have that long of a lifespan.

Gerbils are my overall favorite, and they do not hardly ever bite, and are kind of in between mice and rats. They are not nocturnal in general, but there most active time is the early evening(4:00 to 8:00), they are a true pleasure to watch because they are immensely curious, and like to interact with everything they can get there paws on. Gerbils also LOVE to chew and you need to provide ample chewing materials, or there teeth will get to long, and hey will get depressed and try to escape. Gerbils also love burrowing so they just love any mind of tunnel system. Also if you are going to get Gerbils get at least two that know each other, and do NOT get a commercial plastic/bar metal cage as they will QUICKLY chew through the plastic as if it were a toy, and you will have wasted your money. So get a 10 gallon + aquarium, and provide fun toys. Gerbils also loves sand baths. Gerbils barely stink at all too, it takes one month for scent to be noticeable, for two of my gerbils in a 15 gallon aquarium, which is because they don't drink much because they are from Mongolian deserts.

I own Gerbils, and if you are interested in buying them email me, and I will give you more info.

  4. mice: pro: really amusing to watch on a running wheel. con: not very easy to handle; jittery.

gerbils: pro: soft, with a furry tail, and they wash their face with their paws. con: jittery like mice, sometimes bite. NEVER HOLD THEM BY THEIR TAIL.

hamsters: pro: they stuff their cheeks! ^_^. con: i don't know, i haven't owned one.

rats: pro: smarter than mice. con: bigger than mice with icky looking tails.

  5. Rats or gerbils.

  6. There are no pros and cons, they aren't appliances. Each person has their own preferences and dislikes in the kinds of pets they have. So what you think is a con for example, I would think is a pro. There is no straight answers like that. Do a yahoo search of "mouse care" etc. and read up on each animal individually. Then compare based on what you yourself would like and dislike in a pet.
