Michael Albasini wins the eighth stage of the Tour De Suisse 2012
Michael Albasini of Team Orica-GreenEdge helped his side with an important stage win during the eighth stage of the Tour De Suisse.
He completed the 148.2 kilometre chase to Arosa in a quickest time of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 39 seconds and secured the top podium spot.
The cyclist crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 39 seconds and restricted his competitors.
Mikel Nieve Ituralde of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi finished 1 minute and 15 seconds behind at the second position.
Levi Leipheimer of Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep, Frank Schleck of Team RadioShack-Nissan, Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank and Thibaut Pinot of Team FDJ-Big Mat achieved the next four positions respectively.
Michael is having a good season and his previous season wins came during the Volta a Catalunya and the Fleche Wallonne.
He claimed the first and the second stages of the Volta a Catalunya and secured the second overall spot during the Fleche Wallonne.
The cyclist started his professional crusade with Team Phonak in 2003 and spent a period of two years with the side.
He also represented Team Liquigas-Bianchi (2005-08), Team Columbia-High Road (2009-11) and accepted an offer from the UCI World Tour debutant side, Team Orica GreenEdge in 2012.
Albasini succeeded during the second and the third sprints of the race while Remi Cusin of Team Type 1-Sanofi wins the first category of the event.
The Swiss rode brilliantly in front of the home crowd and marked his name in all disciplines of the race including the first and the second mountains of the event.
Michael Albasini, Mathias Frank, Martin Elmiger, Martin Kohler and Rubens Bertogliati were the top five young riders on the day.
Team Euskaltel-Euskadi currently leads the stage 1 classifications with Team Astana, Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team BMC and Team Rabobank securing the next four positions.
Rui Alberto Faria Da Costa of Team Movistar is now leading the stage 8 classifications with Frank Schleck, Levi Leipheimer, Robert Gesink and Mikel Nieve Ituralde holding the next four spots.
It will be interesting to see if Rui Alberto continuous his overall dominance to claim the top overall spot at the Tour De Suisse final classification.
