Michael Allen and David Frost land the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf championship on Champions Tour
The delectable duo of Michael Allen and David Frost went over to land the team event of Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf championship on the Champions Tour, after a nail-biting showdown with the rampaging John Cook and Joey Sindelar.
Allen and Frost had teamed up for the event after both players posted a strong start of the season on the Champions Tour and won the event by a slim lead of one stroke.
Both Allen and Frost pulled in a final round of 10-under, 62 in the Better Ball format, finishing for an aggregate of a whooping 29-under, 187.
Allen, who won the 2009 Senior PGA Championship has been lurking in obscurity for quite a while and was hoping to break his winless spree which lasted for no lesser than 40 events.
He won the Champions Tour event a fortnight ago at TPC Tampa Bay and clinched his second tour title last week, playing alongside Frost.
Allen said, "God, it took so long to win the second one. Then, I had the breakthrough last week. It was great having David on my side. I've never won two real tournaments in a row in my life”.
Frost commended Allen’s quintessential putting and regarded his excellent form as the main impetus behind the success.
He said, "Well, for sure, Michael couldn't have done it without me”.
Frost, however, has his own share of success when he eagled the 14th, pushing for the lead in the event and his efforts were reciprocated by Allen who birdied the culminating hole at the scenic The Club at Savannah Harbor.
Frost recalled the moments when they were just trailing the leaders through the halfway of the event and said:
"I was a little nervous over that chip. The ball was lying downhill, but it came out just right and rolled down, into the hole. We didn't make a bogey all week, and we got lucky when we needed to".
Allen was rejuvenated with the victory and said that the win itself means a lot to him as he met his wife in Savannah some 21 years ago before they finally got married.
He said, "So, I've always loved this place”.
Both players bagged a winner’s prize share of $230,000 each.
