Michael Annett accused of driving drunk – NASCAR news
Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett was charged of hitting a car on rear while intoxicated in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The accident occurred on early Sunday morning.
Annett drives Car No. 62 for Rusty Wallace Racing team. The team itself is running to investigate about the accident involving their team’s driver Michael Annett.
“Rusty Wallace Racing is aware of a traffic incident over the weekend involving Michael Annett, driver of our team's No. 62 car,” Wallace said in a statement released Monday. “We have been in contact with both the authorities and NASCAR and are finishing
our internal investigation into the facts.”
A television station in Charlotte announced referring a police report that accused the Rusty Wallace Racing’s driver Michael Annett hitting a stationary car at tail end on a red light. A local police officer present at the situation cited Annett having
breath mints chewed. On the arrival of another officer the blood intoxication test was administered. After DWI test, Annett’s blood toxicities were found at a level of 0.32 according to the result report. The legal level of toxicities in North Carolina is
0.08.
Annett seemed regretting on the incident placed at weekend, which could affect his participation this season.
“I am deeply remorseful for my actions and my extreme lack of judgment,” Annett said in a statement. “I let down my team, my sponsors, my fans and my family; I sincerely apologize to everyone that I hurt. This was truly a life-changing moment for me.
Despite all of the negativity that will undoubtedly arise from it, I'm going to strive to use this incident as the impetus to make a lot of positive changes in my life.”
The police report announced by WCNC also included the charges, messaging while driving, failure to reduce speed and resisting arrest to a police officer.
Team’s spokesperson declared that Annett will be facing some internal sanctions this season. He was scheduled to drive Rusty Wallace Racing’s car No. 62 on Shootout coming weekend at Daytona International Speedway, the season opener.
“Rusty Wallace Racing does not condone, nor tolerate, substance abuse by any of its employees,” Wallace stated.
Wallace is determined to address this situation with high responsibility and no tolerance attitude for alcohol.
