The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder will part ways with the club after the 2011/12 season. Shanghai Shenhua eyeing a move for the former Chelsea star…
Werkself bosses have confirmed that experienced midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270, will leave the club at the end of this season.
The former Chelsea star has been in decent form since rejoining the club before the start of the 2009/10 season. The former German international is in his second spell with the club, having previously represented them for three
years (1999-2002).
The three-time German Footballer of the Year will run out of contract with Leverkusen at the end of this season, and is expected to end his career abroad. Several Major League Soccer outfits are tracking the former German international,
but he is likely to join Chinese club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shanghai-Shenhua-c40497.
Ballack’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786, recently joined the Chinese club, and a big money offer could tempt the German to move to Hongku Stadium in the summer. It is believed that Shenhua are willing to offer him an amount
close to 30 million Euros for two years.
On the other hand, Leverkusen CEO, Wolfgang Holzhauser, has confirmed of the player’s departure at the end of this campaign. He added that the bosses were aware of Ballack’s plans since he re-joined two years back, and hopes that
the veteran gives his 100 percent for the remainder of this season.
While talking to Bild, the CEO further stated:
"When we signed Ballack in 2010, it was clear that we would go our separate ways after two years. I hope he repeats his strong performances from the first half [of the season].”
Holzhauser also confirmed that no big signings will be made for the next season after Werkself have already spent 13-15 million Euros in signing Bernd Leno and Philipp Wollscheid. He reckons that Leverkusen will definitely miss
Ballack in their team, but showed complete faith in his squad.
"Following the transfers of [Bernd] Leno and [Philipp] Wollscheid, which cost €13-15 million, our budget is nearly depleted. The small squad is perhaps a risk, but it is a fine squad." Holzhauser concluded
