Michael Ballack targeted by Wolfsburg
One of Steve McLaren’s first duties as Wolfsburg manager will be lure Michael Ballack back to his native country, following his release from Chelsea.
The former England coach will have a hard task to persuade Ballack to join though, as interest from clubs such as Real Madrid will surely be more tempting than a return to the lower standard of the German League.
But with new Real boss Jose Mourinho setting his sights on players such as Steven Gerrard and Wilson Palacios, Ballack may have his options limited and a return to German football may become his best option.
The injured Germany skipper, who is on holiday currently, is still idolised at Bayern Leverkusen, who also have shown an interest and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see his former club lure him back to where it all started. Especially if they offered him a player/coach role with a promise of future managerial opportunities once he retired.
