Michael Beasley wants to be the team leader at Minnesota Timberwolves: NBA News
Back in the 2008 NBA Draft, the University of Memphis Tigers’ standout Derrick Rose and Kansas State Wildcats superstar Michael Beasley were rated as the top prospects as both had the talent to transform any team.
For Derrick Rose, the expectations were spot on as he guided Chicago Bulls on the top in the Eastern Conference last year. Michael Beasley who got drafted with the second pick after Rose however, never became the leader of his
team, not in Miami and neither at the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Before the 2010-2011 season, Miami Heat traded the 22-year-old Beasley to Minnesota Timberwolves, which rejuvenated his career as he now finds himself as the integral part of the young and buoyant squad.
After a successful first season with team with a career-best 19.2 points per game, the prolific small forward Michael Beasley is feeling the confidence of becoming the team leader to help Minnesota Timberwolves in removing the
tag of a weak team.
“I feel like we need a leader. We’ve got a young talented group and all we need is the right coach and the right floor general. I want to be, I think I can be that guy.” Beasley said.
There is no doubting the brilliance and abilities of Michael Beasley however; the problem is that he continues to involve himself in trouble off the court. During the summer, Beasley was pulled over by the police with 16 grams
of marijuana and he also had a controversy of shoving a fan in the face.
Michael’s attitude off the court brings up a concern that whether he can ever transform into a leader of the team and become Minnesota Timberwolves’ All-Star.
Talking about his controversial NBA career of just three seasons, Michael Beasley stated that he is still very young and learning from his mistakes. However he plans to do whatever it takes to get his team on the winning track.
“I’m 22 years old, I’m still growing, I’m still learning from every mistake I made. I’m just like every other young man, learning from his mistakes. As far as being an All-Star, everybody would love to be one, but as far as me
I just want to win first. The more wins we have, the more All-Star recognition I get. So I’m going to do everything I have to do for the team in order for us to get better.” Beasley said.
Minnesota Timberwolves finished with the worst overall record for the second successive time in the last season. The team definitely needs a player to lead them with example and Michael Beasley is one player who has the potential
to do wonders for the team.
