Michael Beasley’s wrist injury in China may cause the NBA players to reconsider overseas move
Since the first meeting between the league and the players union didn’t went right, the National Basketball Association players got more eager to play abroad during the lockout. As both league and the players filed law suits against
each other in the court of law and made the scenario even worse.
Therefore, even the big stars which were undecided over playing abroad started finding best options for themselves in the different parts of the world. In this race many might have forgotten about the most important thing ‘injury’
that was recently brought to the light when Minnesota Timberwolves upcoming power forward Michael Beasley got his wrist injured during his tour to China.
According to the reports from the other side of the world Beasley might have broken his wrist during China Championship on Sunday night. However, that is not certain yet, as Beasley’ wrist will be re-examine.
Reports also told that Boston Celtics guard Paul Pierce was also on the same team that featured Beasley. Michael was going strong in the game, thumped 32 points before he got injured. Beasley’s pain got worse on the next day after
which he was taken for further examination.
The situation is still not clear, but if the wrist is broken then Beasley will have to spend three to four months out of the court. If the lockout settles down before Beasley’s recovery then he is going to miss a month or two of
the regular-season otherwise he will enjoy his time in other activities.
This news must jolted the Timberwolves management, as Beasley is one of their key members of the team, who relatively had a good last season with the franchise, successfully attaining his best scoring average during a season 19.2
points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. If the NBA hadn’t forbidden team officials from contacting their players, the Timberwolves might have begged him to return home or didn’t even allow him to go in the first place.
Beasley’s injury has now raised a worry sign for the other NBA players, who were looking to play overseas during this lockout. In the normal scenario the NBA allows it’s players to participate in such exhibition games without the
risk of losing their salary cheque.
However, now the situation is different, as franchises and league had taken back all the facilities from their players and in the case of an injury a players cannot avail those luxuries including best medical attention, rehabbing
under top trainers.
So now the players shouldn’t just stress more on having good money and out clause from their foreign contracts, but should also include the terms of medical attention in the case of an injury, as NBA is not going to provide them
any insurance coverage during this work stoppage.
