Michael Beer’s inclusion in the team reflects frustration of the Aussies
Australia has been able to handle a lot of issues in the past, but the situation which they are faced with now has simply left them clueless. There was a lot of speculation before the Ashes series from former players and the media that Australia would struggle
in the Ashes. Now that that fear has been realized, Australia is trying everything in its power to bring the situation under control.
At the moment it is all about damage control for the Aussies, and so far the different options that they have tried have not worked for them. After the first Ashes Test, they dropped Mitchell Johnson and Ben Hilfenhaus from their side. The men who replaced
them for the second Test were not that productive either, and Doug Bollinger has also been dropped.
The Australians seem to lack consistency in their selection, and it seems selectors are hoping that these changes will work for them instantly. Doug Bollinger was a disappointment in the second Test, and went for a lot of runs in his spell. The selectors
seem to experiment with every player, and have found it convenient to make changes in the team quite often. In the second Ashes Test, their bowling lacked the punch that it has lacked in the series so far. Ryan Harris proved to be the only bright spot for
Australia in the second Test, as he was the host’s best bowler in Adelaide. He captured two wickets and was also effective in swinging the ball during his spell.
The latest move by the Aussie selectors has been the inclusion of Michael Beer in the Australian Squad for the Third Ashes Test. Whether he plays in the third Test or not remains to be seen, but it shows the mental state of the Aussies at the moment. Australians
are so frustrated at the fact that their bowling is not working for them, and after trying out some options in the second Test, they are working on the policy of including anyone who is currently performing well in the domestic structure.  Their latest surprise
inclusion has been the rookie Michael Beer. Beer has only played five first class matches in Australia, and is certainly too fresh to be included in the Test side. His inclusion has raised a lot of eye brows, but it has also shown how desperate the Australians
are. Xavier Doherty has already been shown the door, and Australia is desperately looking for a quality spinner.
However including a spinner who has played only five first class matches, and who made his debut back in October 2010 is too farfetched. Nathan Hauritz should have been the choice for the rest of the series, since he is currently the most experienced bowler
in Australia. After Shane Warne, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 was a major setback for him, as he was not able
to find a place in the Ashes squad.
They are desperately seeking a spinner who can put the batsmen under pressure in the Test matches, and more importantly grab wickets. The present changes in the Aussie lineup suggest that the selectors are waiting for a miracle from someone in the Ashes.
Michael Beer is no doubt very talented, but to include a player who has just started his first class career is unfair, even to the player.  http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 plays for the Warriors, and was playing club cricket before playing in the first class games. He himself
was quite surprised of his inclusion in the third Test, but one feels he has to play a bit of cricket more to be included in the test side. Beer has taken 16 wickets in five first class games. He averages 39.93 with the ball, and has a good economy rate of
3.60.
