Michael Berrer: a recap of his performances this year
Born on July 1, 1980 in the city of Stuttgart, Michael Berrer is a professional tennis player from Germany. The thirty year old German is currently ranked number forty nine in the world by the Association of tennis professionals
(ATP). Berrer achieved his career highest ranking of world number forty two during the month of May this season.
As far as this year is concerned, the professional tennis player from Germany played at the Aircel Chennai Open tennis tournament as his first competition of the season. The left hander however could not even win the opening round
match as he was brushed aside by Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets.
Berrer next competed at the Australian Open tennis championship where the Stuttgart resident was thrashed out by Denis Istomin in the second round of the competition after getting the better of Kristof Vliegen in a two setter clash.
Two weeks later, the 1.93 meters tall Michael participated at the Heilbronn Challenger 2010. The German did well to make his way into the final of the tournament after ousting a couple of important players on his way. In the title
battle, Berrer managed to knock down Andrey Golubev in a total of two sets.
The following week, Michael made his way into his very first ATP World Tour Final, held in Zagreb. He however was defeated by Marin Cilic in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6, 7-6, 3-6.
Michael’s fine form continued thereon; He got the better of Nikolay Davydenko as well as Sergiy Stakhovsky to earn a quarter final berth in Dubai where the German eventually was ousted by Marcos Baghdatis in a total of two sets.
The final match score was 6-7, 1-6.
At the 2010 BNP Paribas Open tennis competition, held in Indian Wells, the professional tennis player from Germany was hammered down in the opening round match at the hands of his American tennis foe, Mardy Fish in a three setter
clash. However, the world number forty nine managed to advance into the quarter final round of a challenger championship in Sunrise, between Miami and Indian Wells. The German however, lost a tight match to his Argentinean tennis foe, Leonardo Mayer in straight
sets.
The left handed Berrer managed to win his opening round match of the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open, held in Miami before falling at the hands of Feliciano Lopez in the second round of the competition.
At his first clay surface championship of the season in Monte-Carlo, the tennis player from the city of Stuttgart defeated Evgeny Korolev as well as Juan Monaco on his way into the third round versus Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard
ousted him in a total of two sets. The final match score was 0-6, 1-6.
After this, Berrer was defeated in his next three opening clashes. At the 2010 French Open tennis tournament in Paris, he was once again hammered down in the opening round clash. The American tennis foe, Mardy Fish got the better
of him in a total of five sets.
Berrer next entered the All England Club for the grass court Grand Slam tournament where he had to withdraw as a result of his injury in the opening round clash versus Illya Marchenko. He faced two more opening round departures
in Hamburg and Stuttgart.
Michael next won his first clash in four months at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic tournament, held in Washington D.C. versus Karol Beck. In the next round, the German failed to convert a match point versus Fernando Verdasco
Two weeks later at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, Michael Berrer managed to win his opening round match versus Tommy Robredo for a second round berth where he eventually lost to Richard Gasquet in a total of two sets.
At the 2010 United States Open tennis tournament, Berrer was dismissed by his compatriot tennis opponent, Andreas Beck in straight sets.
