Michael Bisping as the rightful contender for the UFC middleweight title – UFC Special
Considering Michael Bisping’s recent outcries to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, it is quite evident that the British mixed martial artist believes he is the one who can Silva’ long reign of championship.
Bisping lost the number one contender match to Chael Sonnen last year, giving the American Gangster the chance to face Anderson Silva once again. However, Sonnen could not make much of the opportunity, as he fell to the Brazilian Spider for the second time.
Following Sonnen’s defeat, Bisping came up saying he is the one who can defeat Silva. According to Bisping, Sonnen is a great fighter but he focuses too much on attacking, which is the mere reason of his defeat for the second consecutive time.
“Anderson is an incredible fighter – he's the best. I want to fight him. I know (Stann does). I'm sure I could give him a better fight than what he's had recently, and I'm sure (Stann) would, as well. Whoever wins this, we should get the next shot at the
title,” said Bisping while talking about the possibility of facing Anderson Silva.
Bisping’s claims did not go unheard. President of UFC Dana White heard them and replied, “Bisping's right in there. Bisping is very, very underrated because people hate him so bad. All the guys Bisping's fought throughout his career … the guy's without a
doubt one of the best 185-pounders in the world.”
Bisping is currently scheduled to face Stann Brian at UFC 152 in September. The British MMA fighter claims he has been promised a match against Silva by UFC officials but it is not in writing which merely means nothing.
If not a third episode against Chael Sonnen, there are high chances of Dana White putting Bisping against Silva.
Considering Bisping’s capabilities, he definitely can be a tough opponent for Silva. Unlike Sonnen, Bisping is good at grappling as well as attacking. The Briton is an excellent submission fighter who knows when to lock in his opponents. On the other hand,
Sonnen mainly focuses on attacking his opponents with knee shots and his fist, which is the main reason why he lost to Silva twice.
For now, Bisping wants to prove his mettle by defeating Stann at UFC 152. He is determined to take on Silva but he knows well that even Stann wants to go for the title shot. In other words, both fighters will fight until death in the cage, making the match
way more thrilling than one can imagine.
If Dana White wants to offer fans a better UFC event then a match between Bisping and Silva could make it. After the disappointment of UFC 149, Dana White is considering his options to ensure fans are not turned off again.
Currently, it is a chaos in the organisation. It seems like Anderson Silva is enjoying his unbeaten position while Dana White is trying hard to find him a suitable opponent. If not Bisping, then there is no one else who has the potential to defeat or at
least face Anderson Silva.
Bisping’s qualification to fight Silva might not be as threatening to the champion as of Sonnen but it will give fans a reason to watch another Silva fight, as most of them are bored seeing the Brazilian Spider win every time.
