Michael Bisping believes he is the number one contender if he beats Vitor Belfort – UFC News
Following president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White’s commitment to give him a title shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva, Michael Bisping has registered his thoughts. According to the Briton, if he defeats ‘The Phenom’ Vitor Belfort
next year, he will definitely be in for a title shot at Silva, since he will then be the number one contender for sure.
“I haven't personally heard anything from Dana [White] or the UFC, I heard him on the weekend say I'd probably get a shot at Belfort - sorry at Silva if I beat Belfort,” said Bisping on Monday’s Edition of ‘Inside MMA’ of AXS TV.
Bisping has been demanding a title shot since last year but he never even considered close by Anderson Silva’s camp. However, now since Georges St-Pierre has declined the notion of fighting Silva, Silva’s camp has indicated towards a fight with Bisping only
if the Brit is able to defeat Belfort.
“I honestly believe I would deserve it, in my mind Vitor Belfort is the hardest fight in the middleweight division outside of Anderson Silva. My last fight was against Brian Stann, before that it was a controversial loss against Chael Sonnen, before that
I hadn't lost a fight since 2009. So if I beat Vitor I definitely deserve a shot, I'm definitely the number one contender.”
For now, it seems like Bisping has a plan. The Briton wants to go ahead and defeat Belfort in a dominating manner to ensure he gets to Silva. Even though Bisping knows Belfort is the toughest fight of his career, he is ready to give his best.
On the other hand, Anderson Silva is eyeing Georges St-Pierre for a super-fight next year but it seems like it will not be happening anytime soon. Georges St-Pierre will be fighting Nick Diaz next year and then probably the French-Canadian welterweight champion
will fight the number one contender Johny Hendricks.
If in case Silva is unable to get his hands on GSP next, Michael Bisping will always be there ready for a showdown. Bisping needs to go through Belfort to get the shot he believes he deserves.
