Michael Bisping calls Vitor Belfort a ‘Walking Punch Bag’ – UFC News
Briton mixed martial arts specialist Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping will face ‘The Phenom’ Vitor Belfort next year at UFC on FX 7. Bisping is coming off a dominating win over American fighter Brian Stann while Belfort is coming off a loss to light heavyweight
champion Jon Jones. Although Belfort lost to Jones, his loss was grander than Bisping’s win. Belfort nearly finished off Jones with the armbar but the champion managed to escape and get back in the fight.
In other words, Belfort would be Bisping’s biggest career challenge to date. However, the Briton is quite confident that he would be able the defeat ‘The Phenom’.
“Far be it from me to look past Vitor. I'm trying to make this fight more significant,” said Bisping to MMA Fighting.
“I'm concerned that I've got my hands full. It's not going to be easy. We're fighting in Brazil. He hits hard. But I think I'll weather the storm and he'll become a punching bag,” he added.
Bisping is already going through a desperate time in his career, as he is waiting to get his hands on middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The Briton has time and again stated that he wants a shot at Silva by hook or crook. His stunning victory over Stann
brought him closer to the title, yet there is no news if he will one soon.
“It's well documented, rightly or wrongly, that Vitor gasses quickly. He does slow down after the first round. Obviously, early for me is going to be the most dangerous. The longer the fight goes, he'll start turning into a walking punching bag. At least
that's the plan. It's easier said than done.” He added.
For now, Bisping is preparing for the big showdown, hoping that he would once again be the victor standing in the arena. Belfort is considered among the best mixed martial artist specialists out there. He is more experienced and a better striker than Bisping,
yet ‘The Count’ is confident that he would overpower Belfort.
If Bisping’s strategy of prolonging the fight works, he might be the one standing victor against ‘The Phenom’.
