Michael Bisping demands interim middleweight title fight against Vitor Belfort – UFC News
Ambitious Briton UFC fighter Michael Bisping has demanded to make his fight against Vitor Belfort for an interim middleweight title. Bisping, who has been chasing middleweight champion Anderson Silva for quite some time now, believes his fight against Belfort
should be for the interim title, if Silva is not willing to fight for the next one year.
Current middleweight champion Anderson Silva has revealed that he will not be fighting until the last quarter of 2013. He last fought at light heavyweight against The American Psycho Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153. Silva then updated his fans with his plans of
working in a Hollywood movie, being produced by Steven Frederic Seagal. In other words, if Silva will not fight until the last quarter of next year, he will be out of the game for nearly a year.
Silva is being eyed by President Dana White for a super-fight against middleweight titlist Georges St-Pierre and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Additionally, there are several middleweight fighters who are looking forward to face the ‘Spider’ in the
cage to end his reign. News of Silva’s absence has not only irked Bisping but also many other fighters who stand with the dream of being the middleweight champion.
“If Anderson wants to take time off to be a movie star make me and vitor for the interim title????” Tweeted Bisping to President Dana White yesterday.
Bisping faces Belfort next year in January. He is coming off a convincing win over Brian Stann and was initially hoping to secure the number one spot for the title shot against Silva by facing Belfort. However, upon hearing the news of Silva not fighting
until last next year, Bisping felt it is better to go for an interim shot instead of chasing the middleweight champion, who already has a few super-fights lined up for next year.
No word from Dana White has been received yet over the possibility of Bisping facing Belfort for the interim title. White is already looking forward to putting Silva against Jon Jones and Georges St-Pierre but both the super-fights seem to be in jeopardy
if Silva would not fight until the end of 2013.
