Michael Bisping just an inch away from title shot – UFC News
It seems like finally Briton fighter Michael Bisping is close to his lifetime dream of being the middleweight champion. Bisping, who has been campaigning to fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva, is finally at the verge of doing so. The only
obstacle that is now there between Bisping and his dream is Vitor Belfort, his next opponent.
In a recent interview, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White revealed that Bisping will get a title shot if he is able to defeat Vitor Belfort. According to White, the middleweight division is filled with young hungry fighters but not
all of them are worth facing Silva. Following UFC 155’s result, White revealed many of those guys who claimed being able to defeat Silva lost to other opponents so they are definitely not worth the showdown.
“In that division, there were so many guys coming up. A couple of those guys lost tonight,” said White.
“If Bisping can beat Belfort -- that's a tough fight for Mike -- he deserves the shot at Anderson,” he added.
Bisping currently stands with 23 wins and 4 losses. He is scheduled to fight Belfort at a UFC on FX event on January 19. The fight will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“That fight was so decisive, it would be tough to throw Vitor back in there. Anderson is going to want to fight new guys. New challenges,” said White regarding Belfort’s fight against Anderson Silva last year.
White was asked if Belfort could get another chance at Silva but the President said no, believing that Silva would want to fight younger and new guys now.
“I honestly believe I would deserve it, in my mind Vitor Belfort is the hardest fight in the middleweight division outside of Anderson Silva,” was Bisping’s reply in his recent interview when asked if he deserves the title shot.
Right now, Bisping is in rage to get Silva. He believes he is the only person in the division to stand up tough against Silva. However, most analysts believe Bisping does not stand a chance at Silva, despite him being the younger one.
