Michael Bisping knows he needs to defeat Brian Stann – UFC News
British middleweight mixed martial artist Michael Bisping knows very well that he needs to score a victory against Brian Stann if he wants to get a title shot at Anderson Silva, UFC middleweight champion.
“We've had that conversation - I've got to perform,” asserted Bisping in an interview with MMA Fight Corner.
“I've got to put on a good win against Brian Stann.”
Considering Anderson Silva’s recent statement that he will not fight until 2013, a couple of middleweight contenders, including Bisping, Stann and Chris Weidman, feel they have enough time to prove their worth.
Bisping is scheduled to face Brian Stann at UFC 152 in September, and the Brit knows what he needs to do if he wants to face Silva.
Earlier this week, Bisping revealed UFC matchmaker Joe Silva has promised him a shot at Silva, if he is able to defeat Stann.
“We've had that conversation - I've got to perform. I've got to put on a good win against Brian Stann,” said Bisping.
“Going out there and scraping a decision by the skin of my teeth won't cut it. I've got to go out there, I've got to beat him, I'm gotta look good and I've gotta fight,” he added.
“I'm going to put on the performance of my lifetime. Brian Stann ain't no pushover. If I do that, I believe I will get a title shot. Stann's a very dangerous fighter, very popular, he's a big name and this is a big fight.”
Last year, Bisping went head to head against Chael Sonnen for the number one contender for Silva’s crown. Unfortunately, the Brit lost the showdown along with his credibility.
Now, Bisping believes it is his last chance to score a shot at Silva. Fortunately, this time Sonnen is not in the game. Bisping might find it easy to score an impressive victory over Stann unlike against Sonnen.
Although Silva’s camp has denied the notion of the champ fighting Bisping or Stann, considering they both are ‘too inexperienced for the Brazilian’, Bisping wants to try his level best to be in the list of challengers.
